Developing healthy eating habits isn’t as confusing or as restrictive as many people imagine. The essential steps are to eat mostly foods derived from plants—vegetables, fruits, whole grains and legumes (beans, peas, lentils)—and limit highly processed foods. For this reason, BSNS has spearheaded the Planting Smiles project. Planting Smiles is intended to get group home consumers familiar and excited about growing fresh vegetables. With our team of volunteer nurses, educating both consumer and staff about the benefits of fresh vegetables and fruits comes easy when the consumer is having fun growing their own vegetables.
